ChoirSnap — Privacy Policy
Last updated 4 November 2026
ChoirSnap is a practice app for singers. Your music, your voice and your practice stay on your device. There is no account, no advertising, and nothing about your singing is uploaded.
Your scores stay on your device
Scores you scan, photograph, import or open from the bundled library are read and stored on the device itself. The reading is done by software inside the app; no page, photo, PDF or title is sent to the developer or to any other company. The same is true of your folder, your favourites and your settings.
A scan the app could not read, if you choose to send it
When a scan cannot be read, the app offers to send it to the developer so that a later version reads it. Nothing is sent unless you say yes: your own mail app opens with an email to theeargymapp@gmail.com holding the photos or the PDF, why the reading stopped, the app's version, and your device's model, system version and language. You see the email and decide whether to send it. It is used only to find out why the scan was not read, and the pages may be kept as a test case for later versions; write to have them deleted.
The microphone, and what happens to your voice
When you choose to sing along, ChoirSnap listens through the microphone so it can tell you how close each note was to the one printed on the page. This is the only thing the microphone is used for, and it is only on while you are singing in the app.
- The sound is turned into pitch measurements on the device, as it arrives.
- No audio is recorded, written to a file, kept after the take, or sent anywhere. There is no way to play a take back, because none is stored.
- What is kept from a take, on the device only, is numbers: the date, how long you sang, a score, and per bar how far from the written notes you were and how many notes were not sung. You can clear this in the app.
Android asks for the microphone permission the first time you sing; iOS asks the same. If you say no, every other part of the app still works.
No account, no advertising
There is no sign-in and no profile. ChoirSnap shows no advertising, contains no advertising identifier, and nothing is sold or shared with data brokers.
Purchases
Premium is bought through the App Store or Google Play. The payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies; the app is told only whether you own Premium, and remembers that on the device. The developer never sees your name, your card or your address.
Reading printed text (Android)
On Android, the title, the words and the part names printed on a page are recognised with Google ML Kit's on-device text recognition. The images and the recognised text stay on the device. Google's component may send Google technical information about itself, such as the device model and the version in use; it does not send your photos or the text it read.
Optional usage statistics
ChoirSnap can report anonymous usage statistics through Google Firebase Analytics, to show which parts of the app are actually used. This is optional and it is off until you turn it on:
- In Europe, and wherever the app cannot tell where it is, nothing is collected unless you tap “Send statistics” on the card the app shows once. Elsewhere it is on and can be switched off in Settings at any time.
- What is sent is counts and choices from fixed lists — that a scan started, how many pages it had, why one failed, that a failed scan was emailed, that a practice take was sung, which screen opened the Premium sheet.
- What is never sent: audio, a score, a title, a file name, a photo, a lyric, or any text you typed. No advertising identifier is collected and no advertising consent is requested.
- Turning statistics off in Settings stops collection and clears what has not been sent yet, together with the anonymous app instance identifier.
Google keeps the collected statistics for 2 months. Google acts as the developer's processor for them; see Google's own privacy policy for how Firebase handles data.
Permissions, and what each is for
- Microphone — to hear the note you are singing, while you sing. Never recorded.
- Camera — to photograph a page of music, when you choose to.
- Photos and files you pick — only the ones you select; the app does not browse your library.
- Notifications (Android) — to show the progress of a page being read, so you can leave the app while it works.
- Running in the background (Android) — to finish reading a page, or keep playing, when the screen is off.
ChoirSnap does not use your location, your contacts, your calendar or your health data.
Children
ChoirSnap is a music practice tool and is not directed at children under 13. It collects no personal data about anyone, of any age.
Your rights
The developer holds no personal data about you on any server, so there is nothing to request, correct or delete on the developer's side, except a scan you chose to email: write, and it is deleted. Everything the app knows about you is on your device: clearing your practice log, or deleting the app, removes it. Usage statistics can be stopped at any time in Settings.
Changes
If the way ChoirSnap handles data changes, this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it.
